As the Senior Attorney you will provide comprehensive legal support focused on litigation, contract management, transactions, customer negotiations, crisis management and risk analysis. You will also oversee litigation processes, negotiating contracts, and assessing legal risks to safeguard the organization’s interests while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

 

HERE’S A TASTE OF WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Litigation and Recoveries Management - Track litigation trends and work closely with others in the legal and compliance department to mitigate the risk of litigation; Develop litigation and settlement strategies for all pieces of litigation or threatened litigation (consumer fraud, employment, contract, IP, etc); Develop and execute strategy for legal recoveries involving suppliers, vendors and others (breach of contract, indemnity, anti-trust, etc); Lead and manage litigation matters and legal recoveries from inception through resolution, collaborating with and managing outside counsel; Provide updates to senior management in a way that mitigates surprises to the P&L.
  • Contract Development and Review - Draft, negotiate, and review a variety of contracts, ensuring clarity, legal compliance, and alignment with corporate objectives; Collaborate with other parts of the business to address contractual needs and disputes.
  • Risk Analysis and Compliance - Identify, analyze, and mitigate potential legal and regulatory risks in business operations and transactions; Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve legal issues and foster best practices; Assist in the formulation and implementation of corporate policies related to legal compliance and risk management.

 

YOUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school is required
  • Admission to the bar in Michigan or ability to become admitted to the bar in Michigan
  • 5+ years of relevant law firm or in house experience, with a focus on commercial litigation, contracts, and risk analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop proactive legal strategies that align with business goals.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations affecting the packaged food industry in areas such as food safety, labeling, advertising, product liability and intellectual property a PLUS
  • Experience with supply chain management and procurement contracting a PLUS
