The Senior Manager, Transportation is responsible for managing the movement of all transportation modes across North America (domestic and international) while ensuring that carriers, customers, and WKKC are aligned within their designated KPIs. This position ensures a cost-conscious mindset which is aligned with current market costs to drive the best cost to serve for WKKC. This is reinforced by direct coordination and communication with WKKC carrier partners as well as the health and accountability of the P&L valued at over $60M.
The position reports to the Director, Customer Transportation. The position has no direct reports, but manages the relationships with our WKKC carriers, our 4PL partners, and our sites across North America. The position manages a strategic relationship with IBP, Finance, external manufacturing, Security, and operational relationships locally at the plants, WK Distribution Centers, Quality, and internal manufacturing.
This is a Hybrid role that requires the incumbent to live within sixty miles of the Battle Creek, Michigan Headquarter Office. This person will travel (up to 35%).

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Responsible for overseeing and optimizing the transportation operations across our supply chain network.
- Overall management of transportation requirements for all transportation modes (IM, TL, LTL, and ocean) managed by the WKKC Transportation Team
- Develop and implement the procurement strategy for all assigned lanes within the WKKC transportation footprint.
- Work internally with stakeholders across the supply chain (OTC, IP, Finance, Procurement, AP, CSC, and Sales) to ensure the required transportation assets are in place to support the inbound, Stock, and Customer orders.
- Regularly engage with the WKKC Carrier partners to reinforce a strong relationship which ensures max support to WKKC while developing strategic partnerships
- Be the representative of WKKC to external stakeholders through meetings, professional connections, and business reviews.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- MBA, or other advanced degree preferred.
- A working knowledge of SAP and TMS is a requirement.
- Individual must possess knowledge in Microsoft Suite, Power BI, Share point
Experience:
- 5–10 years in transportation or logistics, with progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Direct experience working with trucking companies (asset-based and brokerage).
- Familiarity with food shippers and the unique requirements of dry and temperature control freight, shelf-life, and OTIF metrics.
- Experience managing global freight spend, including ocean, intermodal, and cross-border trucking.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of transportation management systems (TMS) ideally experiences with tools like Oracle, SAP TM, Blue Yonder, or MercuryGate.
- Proficiency in freight cost analysis, budgeting, and KPI development.
- Knowledge of carrier procurement, contract negotiation, and performance management.
- Familiarity with routing optimization, mode selection, and network design principles.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with supply planning, customer service, and sales.
- Strong people management skills — experience influencing across matrixed organizations.
- Ability to build relationships with carriers, 3PLs, and internal stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills — comfortable engaging with senior leadership.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in CPG or food manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to Lean or Six Sigma methodologies in transportation or logistics.
- Background in change management or leading transformation initiatives (e.g., TMS implementation, carrier consolidation).
- Strategic mindset with a bias for action and continuous improvement.
- Have a startup mindset and willingness to adapt to changing external market conditions and internal growth driven initiatives.
Compensation Insights:
Salary Range: $126,000.00 - $165,375.00
Salary pay ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and local market conditions.
