As a Government Relations Manager, you will advocate for the interests of WK Kellogg Co in federal and state level government. The role is responsible for monitoring and analyzing proposed legislation and emerging trends that affect our business. Furthermore, the role will develop and execute advocacy strategies that leverage strong relationships with government officials and influential national and state organizations.
A TASTE OF WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Monitor proposed legislation and emerging trends related to issues that are important to WK Kellogg Co to design and execute advocacy strategies, in partnership with internal subject matter experts; issues to track may include sustainability (recycling, packaging, agriculture, etc.), food additives/ingredients, and others as needed
- Lead and drive localized advocacy efforts for states where WK Kellogg Co has a footprint
- Sign-on letters and legislation support requests – vet and approve requests to sign issue letters and support legislation from a variety of organizations and policymakers
- Oversee Political Action Committee (PAC) – work with internal PAC steering committee, who provides strategic guidance and oversight; PAC recruitment; ensure monthly compliance reports are filed with Federal Election Commission (FEC) in partnership with external legal counsel; drive other actions (as needed) for the PAC
- Manage the WK Home State Product Program to supply WK Kellogg Co food to legislators in the states where we make product
YOUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS
- 5+ years working for federal or state government OR 5+ years working as a lobbyist in the food and agriculture sector
- In-depth knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes
- Experience advising, briefing, and presenting to high-ranking government officials
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to assess and execute political opportunities, connect dots and make connections, and engage key contacts to drive advocacy strategies
- Strong research and analytical skills particularly related to legislation and emerging trends
- Bachelor’s degree REQUIRED; advanced degree in public policy, law, political science or related fields a PLUS
